The EU funded LIFEASTI project studies the urban heat island in two Mediterranean cities (Rome and Thessaloniki). People living in urban areas are exposed to higher temperatures due to the urban heat island and are more vulnerable to the risks of heat waves.  This video shows the work carried out in Rome by researchers from CNR-ISAC and DEP LAZIO focusing on setting up a network of weather stations within the city to monitor the urban heat island intensity, developing a high-resolution forecasting model and heat health warning systems to enhance adaptation and public health response to heat waves among local populations.
